What is a thigh lift?

Thigh lift surgery reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.

If you feel uncomfortable about excess skin and fat on your thighs, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon can perform thigh lift or also known as cruroplasty, both regular and extended, mainly to reduce excess skin on thighs on your medial face and if necessary, on the side face. To regularize the contour and to show off a better figure. Cruroplasty can be performed as an independent procedure, or in combination with another procedure to obtain improved results.

The most common candidates are those who have recently lost significant amounts of weight. Extreme weight loss can lead to loss of skin elasticity with its consequent sagging thighs. This can cause complications such as rashes and irritation of the inner part of the thighs when walking, and also hides the aesthetic results of the patient’s weight loss.

Before and During the Procedure

Before undergoing a thigh lift, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon makes a detailed consultation and assessment. During this appointment, determine if you are a candidate, explain the procedure, discuss your expectations and take action. The doctor may require some preoperative studies and ask that you stop certain medications before treatment.

The standard procedure to improve the appearance of the thighs focuses on the inner thighs. The incisions are made in the crease that forms between the thigh and the groin area to remove excess skin and fat. It is currently used rarely for its limited improvement. In some cases, you can combine a thigh lift with liposuction to eliminate unwanted fat. In other cases, patients only need liposuction to achieve the desired results.

An extended stretch of the thigh involves horizontal incisions in the crease that forms between the thigh and the groin area plus vertical incisions along the inner thigh to the knees. This variation in the procedure is much more common since it corrects the main problem that is the excess of horizontal skin along the thigh.

After the Procedure and Recovering

The procedure usually takes three to four hours to complete. We bind up your incisions and take you to a recovery room once the surgery is done. A one night stay may be necessary. Once you are ready, we will take you to your hotel to recover. Most patients need at least two to three weeks out of work.

During this time, you should keep your legs elevated as much as possible, patients must remain in either a reclining or standing position to help the healing process.

Following your thigh lift surgery, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo will recommend you to:

  • Avoid straining, bending and lifting
  • Avoid walking as much as you can
  • Must wear compression garment or elastic bandages after the surgery
  • In case of any infection, wash the wound with soap and water. If discomfort persists, contact your Patient Care Coordinator
