What is a liposuction?
Even when you exercise and lead a healthy life, there may be localized deposits of fat that you cannot eliminate. It can be in the stomach, back, waist or other part of the body. Fortunately Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon has extensive experience in Liposculpture. This procedure separates and removes excess fat, leaving a more defined and aesthetic figure. In most cases, he can transfer the fat to areas that require it to create a more proportionate and pleasant figure. Contact us today to know more.
Liposuction is used to remove fat from areas of the body that haven’t responded to diet and exercise, such as the:
- Upper arms
- Calves and ankles
- Chest and back
- Hips and thighs
- Chin and neck
Before and During the Procedure
Before undergoing a liposuction, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon makes a detailed consultation and assessment. During this appointment, determine if you are a candidate, explain the procedure, discuss your expectations and take action. The doctor may require some preoperative studies and ask that you stop certain medications before treatment.
Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. First, regional anesthesia is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then Dr. Rodolfo Castillo performs liposuction with tumescent technique, making small incisions through which he introduces the cannula to inject a special sterile solution into the area to be treated to reduce discomfort and bleeding. Then use other cannulas to remove fat cells.
The results of a Liposuction, contrary to what is believed, begin to be seen from the two months in which the normal period of inflammation decreases, however, the procedure only requires a short recovery time to be able to return to your habitual activities.
After the Procedure and Recovering
After the procedure you may expect some pain, swelling and bruising after the procedure. Dr. Rodolfo Castillo will prescribe medication to help you control the pain and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.
He may leave your incisions open and place temporary drains to promote fluid drainage. You usually need to wear tight compression garments, which help reduce swelling, for a few weeks.
You may need to wait a few days before returning to work and a few weeks before resuming your normal activities including exercise.
Following your liposuction surgery, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo will recommend you to:
- Avoid straining, bending and lifting
- Must wear compression garment or elastic bandages after the surgery
- Do not lift heavy objects
- In case of any infection, wash the wound with soap and water. If discomfort persists, contact your Patient Care Coordinator
