What is a fleur de lis tummy tuck?
The majority of patients who choose to undergo a circular tummy tuck are those who have lost a substantial amount of weight after bariatric surgery or through diet and exercise. Patients who were previously obese present excess skin both vertically and horizontally and the tummy tuck only offers partial improvement when drying the skin only vertically. Fleur de lis tummy tuck offers the solution by drying both vertical and horizontal excess.
A circular tummy tuck can eliminate this excess skin and reveal the results of dramatic weight loss. This procedure is performed at the same time: a tummy tuck in the abdomen, buttock lift and lateral thigh lift, obtaining a triple benefit.
If at the level of the abdomen there is not only excess vertical skin, but also excess horizontal skin due to the increase in abdominal volume with obesity, it can only be corrected if we add to the horizontal cut, a vertical cut over the midline of the abdomen, to This procedure is called Abdominoplasty in Flor de Lis and this can be: anterior, extended or circular, depending on the length of the horizontal cut.
To qualify for a lower body lift, patients must be with a body mass index below 30, although there may be exceptions. Patients must also have the ability to maintain a stable weight after surgery to maintain a good permanent result.
Before and During the Procedure
Before undergoing a Fleur de lis tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon in Mexico makes a detailed consultation and assessment. During this appointment, determine if you are a candidate, explain the procedure, discuss your expectations and take action. The doctor may require some preoperative studies and ask that you stop certain medications before treatment.
During your surgery, you’ll receive general anesthesia throughout the procedure. Based on what you’ve discussed in your pre-surgical consultation, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo will provide the skin removal, muscle correction, and liposuction to achieve your desired look.
The full surgery for a fleur de lis tummy tuck takes between three hours and six hours depending on the physical characteristics of the patient. Most patients can go home shortly after they wake up from the anesthesia.
After the Procedure and Recovering
A circular tummy tuck and Fleur de Lis is an extensive surgery that can provide dramatic results. As such, patients generally need a minimum of three weeks outside of work. Patients who have traveled to Tijuana from the United States or other areas usually stay at a nearby hotel one week after the procedure. Our staff takes care of hotel reservations for our patients.
Dr. Rodolfo Castillo board-certified plastic surgeon and our staff will provide detailed postoperative instructions so you can experience a successful recovery.
During the first two weeks of your recovery, you should limit yourself to light activities. You should also avoid flexing the body or performing strenuous activities, as it could put an overload on the sutures, leading to an open wound.
Following your Fleur de lis tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo will recommend you to:
- For the first six weeks after a Fleur de lis tummy tuck, you’ll need to be careful when moving around
- Avoid positions that strain your incision line
- Avoid any water that’s still (not running) for two weeks after surgery. This includes bath water, swimming pools, lakes, and oceans
- In case of any infection, wash the wound with soap and water. If discomfort persists, contact your Patient Care Coordinator
